Rotary Moulding Systems
General Information - K M I Moulders Models 16A to 21A
The moulders:
• System # 16A and #17A are 3 face double continuous rotating drums. The moulding and transfer drums are driven by servo motors and plc controlled.
• System # 18A and #19A are 4 face double continuous rotating drums. The moulding and transfer drums are driven by servo motors and plc controlled.
• System # 20A and #21A are 6 face double continuous rotating drums. The moulding and transfer drums are driven by servo motors and plc controlled.
These KMI moulders include:
• Automatic moulding die and decal wash systems.
• Automatic transfer die cleaning and oiling systems.
• The vats have a continuous flow of pulp with 4 inlets on a 54” moulder and 5 inlets on a 67 ½” moulder. This allows for a continuous supply of good pulp to the moulding surface and complete weight control of the moulded product.
• Stainless steel moulding drum and transfer face.
• Stainless steel moulding vat.
• Heavy epoxy coated steel frame.
The moulders are defined by:
• Speed in drops per minute
• Size of the moulding face in inches/centimeters or the # of 13 ½” x 16 ¼” dies
• Product weight in grams/pound per drop
• The product size in length x width x height.
Production capacity in the number of pieces per year.
KMI Matching Dryers
The matching dryers are built to equal the production rate of the moulder. They are fabricated from structural steel and heavy galvanized steel sheeting. The dryers are built to match the product that they are drying. They five pass units. The dryer are continuous variable speed roller chain tray conveyors matching the moulding speed of the moulder. Dryers are available in natural gas, propane or oil.
The dryers are defined by the BTU’s and the drying time required.
BTU content of fuels:
Grade/Type Unit BTU’’s
No.1 Oil gallon 137,400
No. 2 Oil gallon 139,600
No. 3 Oil gallon 141,800
Natural Gas cu. Ft. 950 to 1,150
Propane cu. Ft 2,550
• One burner per zone: Oil, natural gas or propane,
• Two circulation fans per zone.
• Matching exhaust fans as required.
• The drying temp is set manually in each zone for the different products and is automatically controlled.
• The dryers have a high temperature cut off and E stops for safety reasons.
• The dryers are complete with a user friendly PLC control panel.
• The exhaust systems will need to be installed and vented outside on site.
• The exhaust system includes a water recovery and a white water heating system.
• The exhaust includes a make up air heat recovery system in each zone
KMI Dryers
Multi Zone Dryers
The dryer temperature is preset for each individual product for each zone and controlled automatically. These preset drying temperatures can be saved at the main control panel.
Each zone is an individual unit and therefore allows each zone to be maintained at different temperatures. The flexibility of the temperature will allow you to set zone #1 to 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) and set the following zones to lower temperatures. This provides a controlled drying process and saves energy.
The exhaust of zone 1 has a high temperature heat recovery system if a hot press is used with a hot press support system. This system recovers the exhaust energy for use in a hot press or other parts of the process. All of the exhausts have a closed circuit white water heating and water recovery systems.
The dryers are fabricated from 18ga. galvanized, satin coat insulated steel panels and have 4 to 6 inches of fire-proof rock wool insulation. Each zone has man access doors for ease of cleaning. They are assembled on a structural steel frame that allows each zone to be lifted and put in place.
The conveyor speed is controlled automatically by the drop rate of the moulder. Each section may be 36 feet to 42 feet in length to match the speed of the moulder, therefore allowing approximately 14 minutes of drying time. The sizes of the burners are matched to the weight of product being dried.
KMI Dryers:
- Each zone has a reversed air flow to the previous zone to promote an evenly dried product (on both sides)
- KMI dryers have “E” stops at multiple locations for safety
- The product is removed from the end of the conveyor automatically.
- The product can be counted and stacked at the end of the drying process or go straight to a hot press and then stacked.
